Sadly, there was a fatal accident in Utah involving a group flight, with one going down. There wasn’t much altitude to work with, and it might have been close to being saved. Be careful if you ever feel the need to prove yourself to the group—it can be a dangerous trap. it's fun and games until it's not.

A Van's RV-8, N80AR, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near St. George, Utah. The pilot was killed.
The FAA reported: "Aircraft rolled inverted during detachment from a formation flight of 5 and impacted the ground."
