Yesterday after I left the shop, they had left over epoxy primer and needed to dump it or spray it. So the inside of the cowl got a liberal coating and sealed things up nicely. I won't be worried about oil soaking in here.

Today we did a final wipe down and shot some epoxy on the fuselage

Found a couple new dings I hadn't noticed before. they were outies from the bucking bar or dropped tool.

Man cannot live by airplane alone and Corky(shop owner) has invited us to his yearly horseshoe tourney/walleye feed tomorrow. Monday we will do the final prep & wet sand. More color on Tuesday is the plan. WHEW!

I'm in the 1 step back position. After a full shift starting at 0530 today, We got the rest of the wet sanding done today, found a few pinoles and other blems to fix. BUT Corky had 2 damaged rigs come in, that may take first position tomorrow.Spike wrote:Is it Tuesday yet?

since work has been getting in the way of my build I'll show a different color picture.
working with the USGS to track water quality and travel times, we did a dye injection at our intake this morning.
This is the tailrace outlet 15 seconds after 6gals of dye added at our inlet

45 seconds after add...looked like tomato juice.

~1 minute, looking downstream 100yds

It's tuesday and no color today....But I did a trial run on the striping 1 side today(only took 4hrs and wasted $20 worth of 3M Thinline), then helped clean the booth and prep for tomorrow.
0630 is go time, the booth is all N155BK fuselage tomorrow. We're looking at 10-12hrs to get all 3 colors and clearcoat. Wish us luck

Another good day in the booth. Got most of the other yellow items sprayed.
the wheel pants/fairings take some serious time to finish nicely.

Purple went on like a mirror.

Is it perfect? no. there are a couple little flaws, but it is turning out fabulous.
Don't kid yourself if you think you can get this level of paint for $1000 in your garage. The gun we are using cost $800, and the guy pulling the trigger has been shooting paint for >30yrs. BTW there will be no reason to cut & buff.
I was always a Chevy muscle car guy, BUT the Mopar of the late 60'/early 70's had the best bada$$ colors.
Bruce, The colors were courtesy of my granddaughters( of course paint it like a rainbow was also mentioned). They have now been tasked with coming up with a name for N155BK. The layout took a while with Chad drawing up many many sketches before we found the one. In the end it is even a bit different than the sketch.
The Future looks bright.
