Need an opinion on freight damage

Post by Brantel »

Got my fuse yesturday and ABF stood the crate on end causing some damage to the F-776. This is the outside bottom skin under the wing attach area.

This skin is bent on the area that overhangs the fuse and I think this is where the wing root faring attaches on the bottom to the fuse.

There is not a kink and I think I can straighten it out somewhat but I doubt it will be perfect again.

Do you guys think this will show and does the wing root faring strip cover this up?

I am trying to decide if it is worth going thru the pain of a freight claim...

Is this the part of the skin that actually attaches to the bottom inboard area of the wings? If so that piece is structural I believe. Its fairly distorted, I would get it replaced.

I had similar damage to my left elevator skin. I called Vans and they sent me a new one at no charge the next day.

Ditto on the damage - there is no pain of a freight claim, Van's will take care of it for you.

The way I see it, I should have the opportunity to damage and dent things myself :) I want to start with a clean slate!

Get it replaced Brantel. You won't be using that piece for quite some time anyway, and Van's will take care of it.

Is that the only piece damaged?

Already talked to Barb. She is sending me one I guess on credit till the claim is settled.

It looks like by some miracle this was the only thing damaged. I have not opened up all the subkits yet but from the outside they look fine.

The rear bulkhead parts are not the most perfect things but I think that is the norm. Chad did you have to straighten them all up?

Very much the norm. Mine were AWEFUL! I almost couldn't believe they were Van's parts. They're flimsy enough, that with enough tweaking, they become nice and straight. Ugly, aren't they!
