Sometimes ya do something...

...and it just comes out nice!

You know the flap limit switches some guys are putting in their planes so the wing skin doesn't tuck under the flap upon retract (like it can if someone leans on it without you knowing it before you launch).

Most people put it here:

Well, I noodled mine out and came up with a good solution. This little switch will open up the control circuit to my Infinity stick upon contact, thereby limiting flap travel.

I still need to place the bottom screw so I have it "parked" in an extra hole I drilled just to keep it handy.

I think this will do the trick very elegantly!

What do you think?

Question. What keeps the aluminum tab from turning? Is it just the clamping force of the bolt or is there another mechanism at play?

The adel clamp has a good grip on the tab. It has some good "twang" to it.

The tab won't rotate. If I do have a problem with it, I can always make it thicker I suppose, but I doubt that I will need to.

OH WAIT! I think I understand your question better now.

As soon as the tab kisses the switch, travel ceases. There is no chance of pressure against it causing the tab to "clock".

Does that make sense???

I was thinking.......

(and that's where my trouble usually starts) more in terms of vibration and age. Things that don't seem like that they would move, eventually move. Take our retirement accounts, for instance.............well, thats a bad example

If you're concerned about the nut loosening and allowing the tab to clock, you could always fabricate a tab with some locking "ears" that go around the Adel clamp. :?:

I have something similar for my flap position sensor. I used a piece of aluminum angle for the tab. Just cut off most of the angle and leave a tiny bit of it to stick out for antirotation purposes. The angle sets up square to the adel clamp and prevents any rotation.

You can sort of see it here.

I also put some silicon fusion tape under the adel clamp to give it more bite and stick on the flap weldment. Less likely now to slip and rotate.
