Firewall Fwd Kit

Post by Joew »

Not a trick question. In order to keep building, I'm about to order my firewall forward kit for a IO-360. I have no engine yet, but that's th engine I will try to put in. Is there anything else I should order with it?

What about the baffle kit?

Thanks in advance,

Joe

Joe,

Check out the inventory list from Van's at http://www.vansaircraft.com/cgi-bin/sto ... uct=FF_Kit . The baffle kit is included! Email Van's for the specific parts included in the FWF kit currently.

I left out the following:

1) 4 EA DYNA VI-STD Engine Mounts. I went with the Lord brand instead
2) 1 EA OIL COOLER II. I used the Stewart Warner 9 row instead. Some people complain of overheating oil temps with this cooler.
3) 1 ES ALTERNATOR DELUXE. You might want to consider a Hartzel or better yet a B&C alternator. The Plane Power alternators seem to be somewhat problematic.

Back in 2008, this was the parts list:

Wait!

I have some additional notes to what Mikey said...

1) Van sells Lord mounts now.
3) I think Hartzell bought Plane Power? Can anyone confirm this?

No need to really. B and C is the only way to go anyway.

CJ - You're right - Hartzel now owns Plane Power (http://hartzell.aero/product/plane-power/). My plane power alternator lasted about 250 hours before it gave up on me. If I were to do it all over again, I would go the B&C route.

Thank you so much. That was he kind of info I'm looking for.

Another step closer.

Another quick question, new engine from Titan or a overhauled 200 IO 360 done by a non A&P in his basement......I'm leaning to the new 180 hp, but am curious what your thoughts are

Mine is a new ECI that Mattituck built up before they were bought out.

There is a guy up here in Massachusetts that I would recommend who will build you anything you want. He is currently doing an RV-7 engine for my friend Dave.

My FWF kit was very inexpensive. I deleted much of it, as I already bought the stuff elsewhere.

For instance, I had a PCU 5000 Governor already.

I bought a stainless heat selector already.

I bought my exhaust directly from Vetterman.

My spinner is a genuine Hartzell.

I got a yellow tagged oil cooler from Pacific Oil Coolers.

Many of my engine hoses came from Mattituck already.

My alternator is a B&C unit.

Not much left in the kit after you delete all that stuff.

That being said, it was still worthwhile. I still needed all the rest of the doo dads for the most part.

8) CJ

P.S. What great planes these are!!!
