New -7 builder numbers
Hey All,
I was just wondering how many -7 emps are out there circulating.
Mine I got from some guy unassembled last year. It was minted in 2001 and is kit number 70312. The 0312th -7 kit made.
What is your number? This will give us an idea of what they are up to so far.
In the last issue of the RVATOR, I remember seeing one really high number and became curious.

I believe that I am 91072. What did you mean take over a number? Was your kit under an older numbering scheme or something?
BTW, did you hear that at Osh this year Van sold 81 tail kits .... just for the RV-10 alone. Sheeesh, they are like monsters. I wonder what it will be like in 10 years

Spike, I got my kit second hand. Nothing was done, 'cept for an inventory. I took the number that was associated with the parts and plans.
Jim, you probably wouldn't have had to wait long!
Sooo, 3000 -7's and they are the newest 2 seater!
There HAS to be TENS of thousands of kits floating around out there!

CJ,
Bought my emp July 2004, and I am 1940. With TW about 600 after me, it seems they are selling the -7 emp kits at about the rate of 500/year. I am sure that rate will increase over the next couple of years, but not too dramtically, especially with the sales of the -10 taking off and the possible introduction of the -12.
Take care,
Jim

Danno, cool number!
Jim, the -10 and the -12 are totally different customers. I dare say they won't detract from the -7 numbers very much at all. Mebbe I am wrong?
Womack, where are you? You may need the heat. Here in New England I think it is gonna SNAP real soon!

i installed part of my heating system this past weekend by tapping in to one of my heat ducts. installed a T, and put a hole in the wall. installed the vent thingy, and i have a heat vent! i still need some supplemental heat, but this is a start! it's down to the 30's here now.
back on topic...500/year sounds about right jim. i can see it staying steady over the next few years at that number, and i agree that the -10 sales picking up will keep it steady. the -10 is a step up, but there are a lot people who'll opt for it over the -7 'cuz they can. these people never had that option before. the -12, i'll have to agree with CJ on. it's gonna be a different crowd for that one.

Chad, you may also want a dehumidifier down there in your basement. It will keep things drier and it will feel significantly warmer.
The -10 is a tremendously different airplane than the -7. I don't see someone having a hard time deceiding between those 2. The -7 and -9 choice, well... THAT could be a hard one!
The -12, on the other hand COULD detract from the -7 sales. I see the older guy who is tetering on losing a medical, wondering what he is going to build and if he can finish it before he dies choosing the -12 instead.
That guy may also choose the -12 instead of the -4! Obviously the -12 will be all pre-punched and Light Sport.
Besides all that stuff, kit building in general is taking off like a SHOT! It is truly a new, alternative hobby! I can't believe how many pop up builders I keep on hearing about!
New England ain't no So. Cal or Texas... YET!

ahhh, but i'm building in my garage, not basement. i don't even have a basement. would a dehumidifier do anything in a garage? probably not, since it's opened and closed all the time.
i was just making reference to those kit buyers that want a top-o-the-line kit, opting for the -10 over a -7, -8, or -9, which before the -10, were the top kit options. i can definately see your point on the -12 driver though.
you're absolutely right about the kit building phenomenon! i'm one of them, but since i've started, i can't believe how many more have started in my area!! it's crazy! crazy i tell ya!
