My New Prop

Post by ptrotter »

Well, I unpacked my prop today. It is absolutely beautiful. It is an Aerocomposites prop with an extended hub for my Sam James cowl. I can't wait until I get the engine hung and can put it on.

WOW!!!!!
That is SLICK!!

You are going to have one sweet looking -8 with that and a James cowl.

I am considering the aerocomposites prop ... what made you decide to go with them? Why did you decide on 3 vs. 2 blade?

I would really like to see a side by side comparison of the aerocomposites prop with some of the other common props. When I talked with the guys there they told me that they make the prop with the right size hub for the James cowl and there are no restrictions on it....

That is a FANTASTIC looking prop!! 8) 8)

Do they make their own hub, or is it a Hartzell or Mac?

Looks sweet, except it was suppose to be white with red tips so I can hang it on my 4 for a while ;)

Ok, now put it back in the box before it falls over :o

I'm excited to be extracting my fuselage from the cellar and into the garage today so I can keep pace with you. I have ordered my AeroComposite 2 blade last month. Hopefully it will be arriving just after OSH. (crossing fingers and toes)

I set it up there just long enough to take the picture. It is safely back in the box.

The make their own hub. It is similar to a McCauley. They felt that McCauley had the best design. The hub is custom made for each prop so they can make the hub any length, so mine was made to fit the SJ cowl.

I chose Aerocomposites because I wanted the lighter weigh on the front of my 8. 3-blade was purely for looks, I know I might sacrifice a little performance. I like their construction better than MT or Whirlwind although the cost is higher.

Why is that Paul. I currently am interested in the Whirlwind 151. What about the aerocomposites construction did you like more?

I was looking at the WW props until they seemed plagued by cracked hubs. The QC on the Aerocomposites is MUCH better!

The Aerocomposites prop is probably the best plastic propeller Paul's money could buy!

Nice prop!

Spike,

I think the Whirlwind is a nice prop. It has a very nice blade design. My biggest concern is that the 151 requires a counterweighted crank which adds a major cost to the engine. Also, when I was making my decision on my prop was right when they were going through the sale of the aircraft prop business and I didn't know how that would work out.

With respect to the MT prop, I don't like the wood core in the blades.

Now that is what I'm talking about! You have to get those things out of the box and look them over when they come. Ya can't just leave em sitting and thinking no one cares!

Great looking prop there Paul. I really like it!

I think my post/wording mislead you... It came UPS ground yesterday, Feb 19th, 2008. I would have unwrapped it the day it arrived, except I was still in FL on vacation with the fam.

Actually I had re-read the entire thread and seen the above statement. Therefore when I got to your last post I thought you had waited since last fall. I'm glad I misunderstood the situation, I was beginning to think I was really impatient.
