Engine Time!!!

Post by ptrotter »

I've been moving ahead steadily and have made some fairly major progress. My electrical is almost complete so I moved on to bigger things. Today I hung the engine to see how everything would fit. Putting the engine on was not too hard. First I installed the engine mount to the firewall, then removed it and installed it on the engine. This took a little prying to get it to fit, but it wasn't too bad. The I hoisted it up with an engine hoist and fastened the engine mount back to the fuselage. Don't believe all the horror stories about mounting the engine, I was able to do this all by myself in just an hour or so.

I was able to test fit the fuel and oil pressure hoses and everything looks ok. Now I need to figure out where everything will go on the firewall. By removing the mount from the fuselage and leaving it on the engine, it is fairly easy to remove the engine from the plane. The hardest part is actually getting the engine mount to fit the engine.

I also did some work on my canopy. With the able assistance of Scott Jordan, I made the initial trim cuts and also made the "Big Cut" separating the wind screen from the canopy. I little more trimming to fit and it will be time to fasten it to the frame.

I'm getting to the point where there are so many different things to work on that I don't know where to start.

Awesome Paul!! That engine looks SWEET in black and silver (gunmetal??)!!

I kinda like the idea of putting the mount on the engine, then hanging the whole thing! 8)

Very nice Paul!

Is that a tinted canopy? Who sourced it for you?

Looks good Paul, nice to know you can hang the engine by yourself.

Spike,

The canopy is from Todd's Canopies. He has several different tints. I think this is the darkest one. I don't think he makes them for the side by side RVs though.
