Just a question to help me understand
There are 2 nutplates used on the flange of the RV-8 spar K1000-06 for the access plates and the k1100-08 for the fuel tanks
I am trying to understand why K1100-08 were used instead of using K1000-08? Since you are countersinking the spar why didnt Vans choose to use K1000-08?
My guess is that the countersink is deep enough that the head protrudes out the botto little but just want a sanity check
Thanks
RV-8 Spar nutplates
Craig,
Your guess is a good one. I used a piece of angle behind the spar flange while doing the counter sinking as several others have done. If you click on the left thumb nail shot and look close, you can see how the angle got a bit of the counter sink. The bottom left end of the red line points to the interface between the spar flange and the angle used as backing.
