Hi Guys

What's the best finish (paint options) for the cockpit (RV9a QB)

I used Dupont Nason. It is an automotive grade urethane over epoxy primer. On small parts and the glareshield i used rustoleum hammer finish in the rattle can.

Worked for me!

I'm using automotive Delfleet Essential two part epoxy primer, and corresponding paint, for my interior. Some people use the jet flex or other aviation specific paints, but in my judgment they are more trouble than they are worth. I have yet to meet a builder who used rustoleum rattle can paint and regretted that decision. If I had not already bought the delfleet paint, I'd probably use the rattle can paint. Super easy to fix and match in the future too!

My interior paint is water-reducible JetFlex over top of rattle can NAPA 7220 grey primer. The paint was very thick and hard to apply perfectly without getting an orange-peel finish. Additionally, it liked to clog my paint gun. The nice part about the WR paint is cleanup is a breeze with using warm water. It has held up extremely well over the last 5 years and 350 hours.

I, too, used the water-based JetFlex interior paint. I love it. It's thick, that's true, but it sprays just fine. I thinned it with just a bit of distilled water (about 10%) and turned up the air pressure on my sprayer and with a little experience, got it to work just fine. There's a list of things that I really like about this paint:

There's no odor. So I didn't need a booth, air masks, fans or filters. I just painted in my garage or outside, no problems. No complaints from my wife or neighbors. I painted most of my interior parts before riveting them together. I highly recommend this.

If you mess something up, you can just wash it off and do it over (if you do it right away before it starts drying).

Cleanup is a breeze. Warm soapy water in the sink. No thinners, fumes, etc. to worry about.

It takes longer to get a good, hard cure, but when it's dry, you get a non-reflective satin finish that cleans up easily when needed.

I figured if this was good enough for Boeing to buy by the truckload, it's good enough for me.
