TruTrak Elevator Servo Bracket Install Quandry

Post by smithhb »

Today I attempted to install my TT elevator servo bracket in my -9A and immediately hit a snag. The "Installation Instructions" provided on the TT website fail to give the dimensions for where to install the bracket. I'm not sure how the bottom brace is designed in the -6 and -7 but the instructions show a different design than the -9.

Does anyone who has installed this thing in their -9 have a picture or two? I would greatly appreciate it.

BTW, I do not yet have the servo so I cannot use a final install configuration to "back into" the final location. Here is the TT instructions... http://www.trutrakflightsystems.com...itchInstall.pdf

Hey Bret, I just got my roll servo mount and pitch servo mounts from TT this week. I installed the mount in the wing last night, and I plan to install the pitch mount tomorrow.

Doesn't help right now, but I'll have pics of it tomorrow...

Alex DeDominicis sent me my bracket, but he said NOT to mount it now. I am waiting to install mine.

Alex says that in order to position the servo (fore and aft) accurately, the pushrods need to be installed first.

I am trusting him and doing it later.

Looking at the plans, it would appear that there is no need to wait. Dunno...

I did mine per plans - but there is a trick since the plans are for a -6, and the -7/9's are slightly different. All the details for the -7/9 install can be found here:

Mike,

Thanks for the reference but where did you get the 2.8" reference dimension? Did you use the install instructions from TT?

CJ, I do not see why you would need to wait. The control arm offers a lot of adjustment so you can fine tune the elevator pushrod tube when it is constructed.

Chad,

Are you using the install instructions from TT? Look at them and you will see they offer NO dimension for mounting the bracket.

Bret,

I amended my web log with a PDF of my scanned instructions. The link to the PDF is here: http://rvplane.com/pdf/TruTrak_PitchServo.pdf . It has the 2.8" dimension.

Well, there you go! Thanks Mike. Somehow, the current .pdf on the TT website has OMITTED the critical measurement. We need to save Mike's .pdf somewhere for future builders to reference.

I guess I didn't flip thru the instructions far enough when looking at them yesterday...there is a page in there that has this measurement...from TT. Same thing shown on the .pdf Mike scanned in.

I installed mine today with no issues...pics later tonight.

Here's a pic from today...I used the 2.8", and the spacing for the rivets is perfect!

Chad, it looks great. Here is mine. I'm still baffled as to where in the 4-page .pdf you see the 2.8" measurement. Page 1 is a 3-D color shot of the assembled assembly, page 2 is the same shot only in B&W, page 3 shows a 1-D shot with a measurement for the control arm (only), and page 4 shows the hole to drill in the bellcrank.

That's odd...the measurement is on page 3 of the printouts that I got from TT...the other pages are the same as you describe.

When did you order yours? I wonder if that's something that they left out or changed something and realized after they sent out customer orders. :?

I ordered my bracket from Stein last week and I had to D/L the instructions from the TT website. Here is what they "offer".
http://www.trutrakflightsystems.com/doc ... nstall.pdf

I have called TruTrak to alert them to the problem.

Huh...I ordered direct from TruTrack about four weeks ago, and got the pages with the dimensions. They definitely need to correct that!

Just for a datapoint, I ordered my bracket from Stein and it came with the correct diagram(s).

Yeah, but you get a credit for them when you order the servo's.

You made yours didn't you? Seems like I recall a thread about this...
