tip up canopy tape

Post by A2022 »

the vinyl tape has been on there about a year. it has a layer of Teflon pipe tape underneath the seam. it seems to work keeping most of the rain out when flying and doesn't let the water in from the reverse direction when you raise the canopy. I can't remember if I doubled this tape (2 layers)? if I remember next time, I'll take a look.

cleaning the canopy here, waiting five minutes before wiping makes it easier...

What tape are you using? I think I will give it a try. Thanks Steve.

this is 2-inch 3M vinyl/rubber. it's the best vinyl tape I have found. this has been installed for over a year. I tried some cheap tape from China, but it only lasted about 2 months.

before the tape, on a rainy day in Kansas, I opened my canopy and water rushed and shorted my radio. it took a couple hrs flying to dry and restore it. used my handheld instead.

just one ply of vinyl. plumbers teflon tape across the seam, vinyl on top. installed for 14 months.

well, my tape had been on 15 months but when I busted thru some rain a couple days ago it developed some cracks. so, I think this is good for about a year, depending on how much rain it experiences. removed the tape, cleaned the area with adhesive remover and reapplied. I used one pipe teflon strip over the seam. perhaps three strips wide over the seam would be better. I'll try that next year.
