What is involved with putting fuel injection on a engine that currently has a carb. Is there machine work involved? Any info appreciated. Thanks Joe

I did this with an O-320 E2D. I put Airflow Performance FI with the purge valve on. The only machining was on 2 of the cylinders to add the FI ports. 2 of the cylinders had socket head plugs in the ports and 2 cylinders had no ports at all. I had this done when we sent out the cylinders for rework. The AFP kit came with new studs to put in the sump for the new FI servo. Mounting the Fuel Injection spider and purge valve required a couple of longer case bolts to hold the brackets, but I was able to get these from Aircraft Spruce.

Take a look at your cylinders and see if each one has the upper port for FI. If so, no machining necessary.

Lots of photos of my install on my web site.

Thanks Bruce. I am keeping my eyes open for a engine currently and was not sure about buying a used engine with a carb and converting. My wife would love a new one which I have not ruled out yet. Looking at options.

Just saw this Superior XP-360 on VAF with 900 hours on it. Seems like you could get a good deal on it...

I did see that Mike, thanks. The plan is IO-0320 for now. Tossed around the idea of the 0360 but decided against it.
