Standard/Slow build was my choice. I figured the money I saved can go towards a nicer panel than I could have afforded otherwise.
If money were no object, I suppose I would have bought both as quickbuilds.
If I had to choose between only one, then the fuse would be quickbuild.
But since the new match hole RV-8 is now finally available, I suppose I would slow build it now that it's much easier.

I went QB. My biological clock is slightly advanced from most of these other guys. I also have a hurricane damaged aircraft that I'm working on along side of the RV-7. I do enjoy building, but I really like flying so I went the QB route to jump start the RV project. The quality of the QB is outstanding.

Reason why
My reasons for going QB
-To spend as much time with my 4 year-old Daugther and 5 month old son. (oh yea... and keep mama happy)
-Continue Running a growing business,
-Get back to and keep up on flying Proficiency
With these "other" priorities, It will still take me a "few+/-" years to complete the project.
A friend of mine likened the QB to a "Hull" of a boat...
all the creativity/ "dreamworks" start after the "hull" stage.
It all boils down to what your "time" is worth. (remember it's only money, ya can't buy happiness)
I feel the QB is worth every penny and I don't feel any "less" of a builder.
There is no right answer, these are my reasons... go with yours.

Great reasons to go QB! Spend all the time with the kids you can, they won't be around all that long in the grand scheme of things.MachineMan wrote:My reasons for going QB

You are absolutely correct in that if anyone looked at the cost per hour for the QB over the SB they should logically buy the QB. With that said, if I bought the QB I would miss out on a lot of aluminum therapy. That's worth quite a bit to me.

John,
I very much agree with the "aluminum therapy" aspect...
I am building at my work, and always I slip down back to the "aviation dept" to get some therapy which helps smooth out the day.
Before starting this project I felt I was in need of serious therapy,
Now that I've found it I've been very happy with my therapist, looks like a 2+ year stint...
After that I may be looking for another therapist?
I feel I'm in good company in finding the "right" therapy.

What do to do?
Im seriously torn about this latelty actually.
Im working through the standard wing kit. Im coming up on my 3 year anniversary of building, and what Im finding is that building time is harder to come by than expected, which, I imagine is a normal reality for most of us. I am usually away from home ~60 hrs per week for work, and keeping up with life, chores, and most importantly my marriage, this project is taking longer than I wanted. I dont want this to turn into a 10 year project.
As a result, Im starting to lean heavily towards ordering the QB fuse. I was resisting spending the extra money but a friend pointed out that I will most likely pay more than the cost of the QB option by buying engines & panel stuff at inflated prices at a later date than if I go with QB. Anyway, Im torn. I think I might end up going QB for the fuse.

split for me
I did SB wings with a QB fuse to try to keep the project manageable. I don't want this to be a 10 year project either, and like Spike my time is at a premium these days. I have got plenty of good building experience by doing the tail and wings. Besides, the QB fuse still leaves quite a bit of work to the builder.
Next time around I would go QB everything.

Re: What do to do?
I'm not sure that logic works. The engine I want actually went down in price a fair amount recently and the avionics seem to be staying about the same but you get more for your money than before.Spike wrote:I was resisting spending the extra money but a friend pointed out that I will most likely pay more than the cost of the QB option by buying engines & panel stuff at inflated prices at a later date than if I go with QB. With that said, the QB would be nice and if I was ordering one or the other the Fuselage is the one I would get QB over the wings. There is a lot more fab in the fuselage than in the wings. If I were you Spike, and had all of your money, I would go for it!

I was just pokin ya!
Most of us can relate to that. I know I can. One of my friends commented today when he saw the plane "Wow, in a few months you'll have the hard part done and be getting to the money part."
I told him I thought the money part WAS the hard part.

Thanks for all the great input, guys! I think if anything I'm leaning towards SB wings & QB fuse. With the reports of how fast teh QB wings go together, I kind of dread asking the wife for $8xxx for the wings, then a week or two after getting them asking her for another $8xxx. I dont' know if that would go over too well
