Finished wing dimensions...

Before I put too much time and energy into the basement workshop, does anyone know offhand the dimensions of the finished wings (minus flaps / ailerons) for the RV-8? I need to know if I can get them out of the basement once finished!
My plan (for now) is to build the empennage and wings and go with a QB fuse - this will have to go straight to the garage.

The "working space" around the project is what you really need. I am planning a section of my shop right now and dedicating it to the wing portion of the build. A comfortable area should be about 14' x 6' for one wing and about 14' x 8' wide for building 2 wings simulataneously.

I am jigging for simultaneous construction, but I may still only do one at a time.

If fitting them out a bulkhead is a concern, the jig is supposed to be 114" inside dimension and by looking at my friend's wing, I would say about 50"... without ailerons and flaps.

Thanks for the info ... I definitely have more than enough space in the basement, the issue is going to be getting the finished wings out. I'm looking for the dimensions (mainly front to back and length) to see if they'll fit out of the available "exits".

I just ran out to the shop and measured mine. ( Boy is it cold out there!!) The wings measure 115 in. by 49 in. without the control surfaces and wing tips. Hope this helps

It's gonna be a tight squeeze ... looks like they won't fit out the window but may fit up the stairs and out into the garage (if the door is off the hinges...)

I was thinking today if worst comes to worst I could lift the carpet and cut a section of subfloor out of the room above then lift them thru and replace the floorboard ...

I really want to build as much as I can in the basement, as it is cold here (IN) in the winter, I don't want to bother the neighbors, and I have a great space down there.

Any suggestions on determing if they'll fit (short of building a wood mockup?)

Use Boelube and push hard!

Seriously, I would consider cutting the foundation walls. It isn't that hard. Either slice wood or concrete. A 12" tall swath as wide as the wings, temporarily trussed up and then replaced. Definately "do-able" on just about every house I have seen.

There is a guy I know of not too far away who built an RV6 in his basement. He had planned on making some modifications to his staircase to get the fuselage out, but that didn’t work out. He dug a ramp next to his basement and knocked a hole in the wall. That worked quite well.
