I had kept my log and photos on kitlog. Nice program. However, my computer died a terrible death and it is gone. Backup? No . Now what do I do? What do I tell the DAR about the log for the tail feathers and 1st half of the wing kit? I assume this has happened before, but not to me. HELP!!

The DAR doesn't need the log. The DAR needs an airworthy plane to view.
You won't need the builders log for airworthiness.
OTOH, You would need a few pictures of the building process to convince the feds that you deserve a Repairman's Certificate.
Once again, an entire web-based log is overkill. All you really need is a few good pictures of yourself doing work on the plane from time to time and a good story.

So are you saying that if I take in 2,500 hours of video tape showing me building the plane, they aren't going to watch it?

Perhaps it would be wise to back up your Kit log moving forward.
Even if it's just to a CD or DVD disk.
CJ is right, the issue isn't going to be getting the plane airworthy, but it does help to have some logs come the Repairmen's Cert. time.

As other's have said, backing up the local db (mdb file) is important. It's too late for that advice
I backup my mdb file nightly and print hard copies on a quartely basis.
Options that are available to you:
Did you publish to mykitlog.com? You can manually recreate the log. It's going to be tedious, but it can be done.
Depending on what happened, you may be able to recover your hard disk as long as no other programs wrote to the disk overwriting your files. Search for a disk recovery firm. Many times they can get all your data back. It's not cheap, I've seen fees like $300-$500 for straight forward recoveries. More if there is significant manual labor involved.
If just your motherboard died, just stick the disk in your new computer. Your data should still be there. Re-install kitlog and copy just the file with the mbd extension.

Jeff don't sweat it. You said you lost empennage logs and some of the wings. It's not the end of the world. Reconstruct logs from your memory in written form. Approximate dates and work performed it will keep your future inspector happy. You still have 99% to go back it up this time. Move on stuff happens

If you ar really upset about it, there are companies that can probbaly recover the lost data from your disk drive. I had my system crash and lost a lot of data but I was able to recover most of it. It is not cheap but most data can be recovered. You can search the Internet for data recovery companies.
