Life vest concept for the elderly. requires 1 shotgun shell. hinged at the lower edge for the stowed condition. 2 remote hand grip cable operated. one grip raises the mechanism by spring action. the other grip sets the projectile free. both grips have to be engaged to set the projectile free. in the stowed condition, a plastic cover can be in place. when both grips are activated simultaneously, the projectile could be set free within approximately 0.5 seconds.

there could also be an alarm to warn if the mechanism has been activated and the projectile is ready to be set free... for added safety. 3D printing, solving everyday problems, but needs to be a steel pipe for one use only. be nice to grandma and grandad. :)

Garmin 760 GPS Dock for GPSDock1 in process. a big one. some said it couldn't be done. we do it every day while listening to music. a perfect field operating record, as far as I know.

I rarely get any feedback on parts, and I am surprised by that. I don't know if it's good or bad. however, today I had some feedback included in a GPS Dock order from Mexico. made my day! most of my international orders are from Canada and Mexico.

I am crawling out of printing backlog and trying to get to the airport.

Note from Customer
Thanks, this is my second dock, you are doing a great job!!!!

nice to be in the air again after several weeks but now the bugs are here again. fuel vent bug blades are installed to keep the bugs out while both on the ground and in the air. these are the original and have been used for many years. they also seem to allow for more fuel pressure.

GPS Docks with variable mounting hole position. these are custom docks with adjustable outer dimensions, so why not the mounting holes. four positions at .125-inch increments to allow variable positions for the dock to extend out of the panel and ease installation. requires four screws total to mount, either the long side or the short side. get exactly what you want.

see the mounting hole position shift.... from the creator of the "printed GPS Dock", with a perfect operational record.

check your plastic for type, size, quantity, and color. too many times I have ordered plastic filament and it is incorrect. when you receive filament, open each box and inspect. it's like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get.

custom size conduit supports. update one number and the model is auto generated. I like auto generated models because it minimizes time for changes. determine the key driving features and design around those. put the driving features in a design table, that way it's like updating a spreadsheet to adjust the numbers. first time to print these for someone. maybe they will catch on. average conduit outer diameter = 7/8 inch for these.

rudder trim wedges. this one happens to be the same size as the one on my aircraft (except mine is angled) and is hollow, very light weight. I have printed these in more different sizes than you could imagine. the smooth side is the outer and the textured side is the inner and is for bonding.

determine the size you need by flying at your normal cruise altitude and the ball centered. during a climb it is normal to use right rudder input and left rudder input during descent, but during cruise you should not need rudder input.

when you receive plastic filament, open every box to ensure it is the correct product you ordered. I buy direct and this order was discounted for me. I have hundreds of pounds of plastic filament on hand.

settling a barter trade deal..... I have been using this type of chock for the past couple of years exclusively. I would not use any other chock. they are "da bomb"! too expensive for most and really not needed if you just fly around the patch and put it back in the hangar.

Kansas Chocks, Mechanized Wheel Chocks

Use as regular wheel chocks or LATCH them for added security. These chocks are lightweight but when latched will not blow away in the wind.

The base of the chock is printed with a couple SOFT layers for extra grip.

To install, place the forward chock then the aft chock and pull rope snug and latch. Before first use, adjust the rope knots to fit your tire to achieve a slight rope tension when latched. Extra rope length is provided, trim to desired length. No further adjustments will be needed. To unlatch, pull rope grasp straight upwards. Multi-color rope grasp are installed to help identify position of chock. The latch mechanism is oriented outwards on the mains for easy access.

Note: The nose wheel chock is unique and will rotate with the nose wheel. This can be useful for light to medium winds as the nose wheel chock alone will secure the aircraft. In this way it is not necessary to crawl under the plane to add main wheel chocks.

Tested in Kansas in the worst-case orientation for weeks (multiple times) in extremely windy conditions and achieved perfect results.

3M Dual Lock is really amazing. the screw dog stake weighs 1.1 lbs. it's been hanging there almost two years supported by Dual Lock. the first try was using old Dual Lock, 4.5 yrs or older that had been in my hangar, the plastic mount was as printed. the next round (current) used fresh Dual Lock and the plastic mount bonding surface was scuffed. I am amazed. Yoh, how long will it go?... I duh-no.

the perfect song for 3M Dual Lock....

nice to see a elevator gust lock web thickness of 0.125 inch (so gap is a least 0.2 inch), this means some folks are opening the horizontal stab fairing to elevator horn gap to prevent potential ice jams .... the RV-10 is a cross country machine!

looking at .6mm nozzle effects vs 0.5mm. why, because the print is faster. even though the nozzle is only .1mm diameter larger, the nozzle flow area is much greater. also, the layer height is increased, so fewer layers which results in less definition and smoothness. is the faster printing speed worth it? I guess it depends on the part cost and quality requirements. printing cost is primarily dependent on printing time, where for most general materials, the plastic cost is about 20% and the printer time is 80%. so, reducing printer time is the biggest factor. to keep costs as low as possible while plastic material price increases, one option is to print faster. this does NOT mean increasing the actual printer head speed, because a minimum about of time is needed for the nozzle to be in contact with the substrate to achieve a good "weld". the better option is to increase flow rate at the same speed. when flowing more plastic, the heat into the part is increased and sharp corners will need to be compensated for this effect. also, more plastic extruding from the nozzle will create more drag and can increase ringing effects (printer head deflection from course). this experiment took me five attempts to achive an acceptable part. dimensional first article inspection results were very good and well within tolerance. since more plastic is flowing from the 0.6mm nozzle, I needed a small groove to hide the beginning outer flow line to achieve a smooth feel. I haven't decided if I will move to the 0.6mm nozzle but I learned something about using it with this material by pushing to get to an acceptable print. any time you learn something, it is good. I'll test the 0.6mm nozzle, print 5, on my aircraft.

0.5 mm nozzle area = .196 mm^2
0.6 mm nozzle area = .282 mm^2

0.6mm nozzle flowing 44% more plastic and also at increased layer height results in faster prints.

print 0 = original 0.5mm nozzle
print 1-4 = 0.6mm nozzle test prints (scrap)
print 5 = 0.6mm nozzle acceptable part

Image

**************

print 5 = 0.6mm nozzle acceptable part on the left
print 0 = original 0.5mm nozzle on the right

these part weights are within grams of each other.

Image

Image

Image

***********

some are going to multi-core nozzles to improve heat transfer for really large nozzles, such as 1.4 mm. I'm not there yet.

3D printing... fish tank lighting brackets. I have helped my youngest daughter, Amanda, build yet another fish tank. this time she is going for the "look" and wants a copper pipe to hold a 6 lb light. we did the analysis together (another teaching opportunity) and I cut all the wood with a circular saw. she put it together and even used pocket holes. I'm proud of her for being detail oriented, but it does get worse because now we have a DI water system for shrimps! anyway, these are custom brackets that align the pipe with back of the tank stand exactly, a design requirement. why, I don't know, she wanted it.

you can even listen to music together while you build and do silly dance moves.... she gets crazy at 1:11... :)

I met a guy from OOZEBOT at MRRF in Goshen IN last week and thought he was switched on. I didn't even know OOZEBOT existed. I liked the mechanical layout of his printer. he is printing some samples for me. if it looks OK, then I will be his first customer. normally, I don't like being first, but he has what I need to do very high temp printing, IDEX. you invest in the machine but more importantly in the personnel, a smart guy from South Georgia. better to buy local and help them grow. printers from South Georgia and Fargo ND, plastic from Grand Rapids MI. slicing SW from Cincy. bootstrap up!
