A member on another forum recieved this letter from Delta, he's a Gold Medallion customer (whatever that is  ):
SYSTEM UNFAIRLY TAXES CUSTOMERS LIKE YOU
Please join us as we lobby Congress to update
the Air Traffic Control System.

Hello Mr. xxxxxx,

Providing the highest quality service to our customers is the guiding principle in everything we do at Delta. But it is difficult for us to provide the level of service you deserve when air traffic in the United States is controlled with pre-WWII methods and technology.
Within a decade, traffic delays will cost the economy $40 billion a year, and you, the customer, a great deal of wasted time. There will be 85% more jets in the sky in the next 15 years—an increase driven largely by corporate jets, fractional jets, air-taxis and very light jets. To an air traffic controller, a jet with a celebrity or a CEO takes as much effort as a commercial flight with 250 passengers. However, the current system is funded almost entirely by the airline ticket tax, meaning that you are paying for nearly 95% of the air traffic system while corporate and private jets get a free ride!

You can help make a difference! Please contact your Congressional representatives and ask them to:

* Quit forcing you to subsidize corporate jets through the current unfair ticket tax
* Support a new cost-based ATC finance structure that will fund the system fairly and enable the FAA to modernize our aging ATC system

Working in a partnership with other airlines, we will do everything we can to continue to improve upon the customer experience. For more information on this initiative, called "Smart Skies," go to smartskies.org/delta. We can make a difference!
So maybe I'm missing something, but how do I, putting around in a 172, cause a delay for a commercial jet? The only way I see GA causing delays for commercial traffic is when they're using the same airport. If that's the case, either have a hefty landing fee for those airports, or make them commercial only.

The airlines aren't going to make any more money if they get the ticket taxes reduced anyway, since they're all going to cut their own throats with price wars.

OMG!!!

This is RIDICULOUS!

It is called divide and conquer!

They do it with the gun owners too. You know, they tell the hunters it isn't about hunting. They tell the competitors it isn't going to hurt them. They tell the handgunners it is about assault rifles.

If they split us up, they can take us all down individually.

After they get this though, they will try to get us to side against the commercial guys! After all, look how they already made enemies out of us!

We need to stick together! Someone please clue in the commercial guys and tell them what is going on!

The REAL cost to the ATC system is all those gas-guzzling, beer-drinking pilots in the NorthEast. I say just charge THEM.

Let's see if we can wake Snap up by blaming the Ozzies. I say the Australians are responsible for US airline delays!

The airlines' reasoning is just stupid and they know it. It would be like Greyhound saying that their busses are delayed because all these cars are on the road. Let's just pay more and subsidize Greyhound's gas then. If auto drivers pay more in gas taxes that will not get "the dog" to it's destination any faster.

Getting a free ride my...
