The plastic parts

Post by captain_john »

I will be the first to say that the reason I am building a metal airplane is because I dislike, no HATE working with 'glass.

That being said, I want to do it right once... the first time!

I guess my question is, West Systems or T-88?

I have heard people talk about T-88 and am left wondering the pro's and cons.

See their website at: http://www.systemthree.com/p_t_88.asp

Hmmmm, Antony, you are a plastic guy. Whatcha think?

I have both, and prefer the West Systems stuff. The T-88 is good for small epoxy jobs, but the small amount of work I've done with both favors the WS scale...

HAS to be west systems! T-88 is for different sorts of jobs :)

Get the west systems and the pump pack, you'll find it's downright enjoyable to use :)

FYI, T-88 is the sort of stuff you'd use to build wood wing ribs.

Now it's just not nice to out your friends in public. Now everyone will think my curves aren't real. I will have you know that they are real, and they are spectacular.

So, back on topic -- what are you doing with the glass?

I vote for the West System. I am not a fiberglass fancier either, but once I got the hang of it, the job became more tolerable.

You got gas for that snowblower John? Looks like a wicked good Noreaster heading your way!

As the boat building guys say, "When you are looking for an epoxy system, don't look North, East or South."

Cool, Sounds like West systems for sure. Easy enough. West Marine is just right up the street!

Antony, I am building an RV! You know, it is one of those fast kitplanes that you build in your garage!

 (sarcasm, another service we cheerfully offer!)

Yes Doctor, I am refueling today! I am switching to AVGas, though. The storage properties are so much more stable. That carb was a MESS from last year!

Ha ha -- you know what I meant.

If you want to talk about glass work gimme a call. I am no pro, but I seem to get some pretty decent results on the stuff that I have done.

Hey, CJ --

Here is another vote for West Systems -- I just layed up fiberglass skirts for my canopy (am I the only fool doing a slider?!?!!????), and it worked great! Even sets up pretty well during these cold midwestern nights. I had more trouble with Superfil setting up than the flocked cotton/West mix that I made as an alternate filler.

LOL! Hate it that much do you. I would have thought that you would have come to terms with it after fixing up the boat.

So should we discuss doing a fiberglass center console? It looks like you are almost at that point.

Thanks Rob!

Antony, a new console would be cool! The wife wants one with a windshield anyways!
