Trim Tab Hinge

Post by Womack2005 »

OK so I am almost done with the trim tab for the left elevator but the hinge pin supplied with the hinge is not long enough. The plans say that it will be supplied with the fuse kit :( Problem is, I need it now. What did you guys do?

Thanks
Will

Chad, you just received a piece of hinge with the pin already installed, correct? Thats what I got but it is only about 1/2 inch longer than what I need. This means when I trim the hinge down, the hinge pin will only stick out about 1/2 inch. Not enough.

Gotcha. I hadn't looked at it very close. Guess it could be a problem for me too...but I fit mine without any problems, and it's on the elevator in storage right now.

Do you have a pic?

I'll take one tonight if I can get out into the shop (read: oven) without passing out from the heat

You need it NOW!?!

You gonna be flying it that soon?

:P

Reeeee-lax... put the shorty in the for now and when the time comes, install the permanent one.

Nice an cool here! I am reading 82 outside, but much cooler in the garage. I have yet to really WANT the AC in the garage! Once I pour the pad out back, I will tie in the condenser unit, but until then... this ain't bad!

Wednesday is supposta be the scorcher! I am taking the Archer to Block Island with some fellow teachers. Should be nice and cool down there!

Tomorrow is commercial fishing day here in MA. We will probably run out to the outer Cape and bang about 30 striped bass! I will letcha know how we do!

Oh, this teaching bit is hard to take this time of year!

True that CJ. Would just like to finish the entire assy now so I don't have to remember later 8)

Anyway, here is a pic of the hinge. I have the inboard edge marked to trim (right side of pic). This look familiar to yal?

No progress at all today - I did :drink: but still too :x i almost :puke:

OK, so I talked with Ken @ Vans and he told me that the 'real' hinge pin comes with the fuse kit and just to use the 'temp' hinge pin supplied with the hinge for now. Oh well :(
