Finally got a flight in

Last Thursday I had my first flight since April. Yes, CJ, that time going to Sanford was my last flight.

This wasn't a lesson. I was on a mission. Aerial photography. But, with an instructor in the right seat I was in control again

.

The flight was short but fun. The landing was a giant boatload of suck, but both the plane and it's occupants survived to fly another day.

Here's one of the pics I snapped. It's of my family farm and our corn maze:

Keith, that is a very well laid out maze! I saw one east of EWB that paled in comparison!

With regard to flying, get up when time allows. As a student pilot, book reading, hangar flying and airplane building goes a long way to a proper pilot's attitude and aviation education.

Thanks John, We've been making them for 9 years now. Most are of the pumpkin, spider, witch type of theme. We went high-brow this year. It's our version of Van Gogh's "Starry Night"

Hey Keith:

I have always wondered how the heck you do that? You can't see the design while you are doing it, so do you use GPS to lay it out? Inquiring minds want to know.

Nope no GPS. The hand held stuff isn't accurate enough and the surveying stuff is more spendy than we are willing to pay.

Our methods are way simpler than that.

Remember all of that HS Geometry you swore you'd never need?

We plant the field twice. Once north south, then again east west. This gives us a 5 acre sheet of graph paper to work with. Then it's just a matter of x,y coordinates.

PK, I've helped out on a couple of maizes (I know kind of corny) and ca nappreciate how much work it takes. The grid is the best way I believe. At what stage of growth do you clearout the portions of the maze? We did them when the corn was about knee to waist high then came back in and cleaned things up after it tassled. Your maze looks great!

we shoot for ankle high when we cut it. much higher and we start having trouble seeing the column/row markers
