This is one reason I decided to start posting in this place, there is more to ribbing than just putting them between skins.

Very true! In other boards this thread would've disintegrated into arguments about whether the nail length callouts were appropriate and whether or not they should be primed.

I am really starting to be concerned about my mental health. I totally understood every post in this thread.

I did both wings at once, but I have plenty of shop space at this point.

The wing ribs aren't that bad, I kind of enjoyed all the deburring and fluting.

I had read somewhere that if you "nail" the ribs to the spar with the spar hanging on the jig, the spar tends to bounce a lot. So the question remains: Rivet the ribs to the spar on or off the jig?

Tshort, I see you used the bench. For those of you who used the jig, is the bouncing a real issue or......?

I've been working on mine for about a week now and I am nowhere near putting them in the jigs. (in fact I haven't fabbed them yet) My point is that a lot of work can be done outside the jigs. I've seen where builders even put on the ribs with the spar on the bench.

What do you all think about that?? This would eliminate the ol' boucning spar in the jig.

I didn't hang anything in the jig until I had the main ribs riveted to the front spar and rear spar. You can do this by clamping the main spar to the table and attaching the main ribs, then rivet the ribs to the front spar. This allows you to move them over a bit to get in there more easily to rivet them. Once they are riveted to the front main spar, then cleco on the rear spar and rivet/squeeze the ribs to the rear spar.

Will, I had a tool that automatically did all the counter sinking on the wing spars. I call it Luke. Now that he is off to school it seems to take me about twice as long to get things done.

I've talked to Luke 3 or 4 times and he always wants to know what I have got done on the project. I think he thinks that I'm moving pretty slow.

Everytime I have called he has told me he was studying and I believe it. He has a pretty good load and likes to get good grades.

He did tell me that he expected me to have the fuselage ready to rivet when he comes home for Christmas.

There is a LOT of good info on your site Brad, I've looked at various things many times to see how someone else has done something. Having a picture sure helps make sense of some things. A big thank you for taking the time to make that available.
