Started the TAILWHEEL TRAINING today -> WOOHOO!

Post by N200PF »

Well I worked out a program to use my instructor and a mutual friend's RV-6 to get the endorsement and to fly the plane after I'm done. (Insurance is ALL up to snuff for this arrangement!) The RV-6 owner is a super woman and she doesn’t mind having her plane exercised a bit (by stellar pilots of course) when she is away for several months at a time. Before you ask, there will be NO DETAILS discussed! ...just that she is GRACIOUS enough to allow me to give her plane workouts while she's gone and have it tip top shiny fresh on her return.

I'll take some pictures at our next session and keep you posted!

Beautiful RV-6 that that really performs in the air and on the ground!

- Peter

PS - Anyone else fly on this PERFECT spring day???

Ohhhhh you LUCKY man!

Yup, I did a little flying too!

...and it WAS a pretty weekend for flying here in picturesque New England!

I did a low and slow flight up the south coast fromt he islands in the Citabria.

750' - 1,000' at 65 knots up the shoreline! NICE!

CJ they say you're not flying unless you have to climb up to pattern altitude when you get back!

Peter, I got one thing to say to you...YOU SUCK! Just kidding! What a deal!! I had one of those deals about five years ago to use a Mooney M20J to give a "work out" and got my complex endoresment out of it. Great job finding and putting that deal together!! I'm  with envy...

Nice! Be careful about jumping into any other tailwheel plane after you get checked out in the 6. These RV's handle so nicely you'll wonder what's wrong with the other tailwheel plane!

Enjoy the feeling!

Thanks Guys...yes sometimes the stars just line up. I'll post a pic or two of the plane this weekend...

I have to say this tailwheel thing actually seems doable! I know it's big talk for someone with a total net of 3 hours in a taildragger but things are going pretty well.

What did I learn today? "Stick in your gut, no matter what". Anyone heard that one before? I feel like SUCH a rookie!

Any of you guys have any words of wisdom or tailwheel tips as I move along in the training?

I was just thinking about this one...

Is one ever really DONE with tailwheel training?

I know that with 60 tailwheel hours, I am not!

Lots of fun!

Hey Beth and I are going to be looking for places to go! Maybe we'll take a week in the spring and do the RV project tour! ...stop and see how far everyone is getting on their projects as we get more and more behind on ours!

- Peter

PS - One bit of trivia on 9NB: It was originally built in Canada and took a high altitude run to just over FL260 (in less than 1 hour with minimal gas). It's also been up sight seeing in the Arctic Circle. Cool to learn the history!

Make sure and put Iowa on that list of places to stop. We'll pick you up and buy you lunch. Just tell us when!

I thought that plane looked familiar, the builder is the guy that gave me my first RV ride (different 6 though).
