My brake pedals

Post by cjensen »

Thought I'd put up a couple shots of my brake pedals that I finished yesterday. A marathon day of 8.5 hours working on these suckers, but they turned out great!!

Chad, those are SWEET lookin! I like the way you painted em red before riveting so you can see the rivets.

I was able to get one landing light installed this weekend and about 1/8 of a fuel tank sealed  Not bad for only having one day off.

Nice looking 'STOP' pedals. I don't know if I would have thought to do the arms and nuts in red, but then I don't have much imagination when it comes to making things look neat. The contrast of the rivets gives it that little extra touch, I like it.

Those look real nice Chad. Did you use spray cans to paint them? The finish looks great in the photos. I was planning on just leaving mine aluminum but may have to reconsider. Some anodizing might go well there also.

Yep, spray can. I thought about powdercoating them, but I decided against it because when the soles of my shoes are wet, powdercoating can be VERY slick! The paint may wear down after a while, but I'm okay with it for now.

Red anodizing like the Andair valve would be really cool too! It, too, would wear off after a while though.

Chad, those look really nice (as everyone else has stated)! I'm thinking there must be something that you could put over the paint to help protect it. I was thinking some heavy vinyl 3M stoneguard like they use for the front of car hoods, but that may be to slippery. So I thought maybe check a skate shop and see if there is any such thing as clear grip tape for skateboards :sneaky: If they don't have any in clear, maybe they have some in red. Even black could look good if you just did the tops of the pedals (where they're likely to see more wear) and made the holes in the grip tape slightly bigger than the holes in the pedals so you could still get some of the red showing :)

Or something like 3M matte finish clear aircraft leading edge tape?

Sweet, I think pink would be a good color for the right side pedals, make the little woman feel right at home. :luv:

Are the pedals dual control to operate the rudders and the brakes?

Well...no pedals on the right, so no pink...

The pedals are brakes only, but you use the hang down bars for most of your rudder movement, at least on the ground.
