And so it begins!

Post by BrickPilot »

Finally broke ground today on the workshop. Below is a picture from the upstairs window, looking into the side/back yard where we're digging the foundation for the shop. I'm also about to place my order with Avery for my RV tool kit (I've been slowly collecting other shop tools now for a couple of months.) :)

I estimate that it will be done around the first week of July or so. I'll take a few days to paint it, and possibly setup the compressor plumbing. Then it's on to OSH where I'll be placing the order for the RV-7 Emp kit (!) and taking as many of the building workshop classes as I can stand.

Psyched! Excited! Progress! Woohoo!

There ya go!

I started the same way in 2002!

The garage was habitable by 2004 and I commenced construction on the plane in the summer!

Congrats on your commencement!

Cool! 8)

Jeff, you might want to consider ordering the first kit right before going to Osh. That way you beat all of those who order while there.

Are you going to join us for the Rivetbangers night out at the Black Otter? It is always good to meet everyone and put a face with the people we exhange ideas with.

Is there no "show discount" at OSH? If not, I'll heed your advice.

Where is the Black Otter and what day is the bangers' ball? My brother and I will be there if possible (we've already got tix on the way for the Bob Collins BBQ on Wed(?) night).

Hey Jeff...no show discounts at Van's. They don't need to discount anything to keep people coming thru the front door... Order it BEFORE the show for sure, or you'll wait a month or so longer.

The Rivetbanger's Black Otter Ball is Tuesday night, 7pm I believe...don't quote me on the start time. Come early for a few beers if ya like! It's up near Appleton in Will's stomping grounds. GREAT FOOD, and you may see CJ put away one of the biggest Prime Ribs you'll ever see!! 8) Hope to see you there!

It will be great to have a purpose built shop, I'm still converting my garage into something useful.

Ditto on ordering the kit before OSH, it doesn't hurt to be able to look at all the parts in advance, and they don't take up that much space. Buy the two practice kits to get a few of the screwups out of the way early and get a feel for using some tools.

Tehy are right Jeff, no discount. I had thought there would be and waited, oh well, I wasn't ready for the kit yet anyway.

While at Osh that year Luke and I attended a seminar on building a sheet metal airplane that we found quite helpful. IT was only a nhour or so long but we actually got to rivet our first rivets and it gave us the encouragement we needed to go ahead and order the kit.

Hope you can make it to the Otter! If you need a ride I'm sure several people will be driving up with some extra seats open.

We'll be there for sure. We're staying up in Appleton anyway, so we'll be in the area.
