I know, plus I'm out of money anyway. My plenum has never fit to my liking, so hacked it to align the inlet rings, raise the cooler area and also clear the FI spider w/purge valve and reglassed it. Last night I put it all back together and now have contact with the upper cowl. :bang: :bang: :bang: Back to the drawing board. If a new plenum wasn't $450, I start with a fresh canvas.

While a QB fuse is marginally acceptable, Can't say you've built the plane if you didn't do the baffles. I'll get it, just frustrated last night...now where is my cutting disc.

Brian! As Chad said it's a rite of passage :bang: :bang: I am thankfull I just used the standard baffeling system. I took my upper cowl and and baffels off so many times trying to carefully file off enough for proper clearnces. :bang: Finally I remembered that the baffels were to be between 3/8" and 1/2" from the top of the cowl. Then I started triming 1/8" off at a time. I finally got it down. I spent most of the Summer of 2006 doing that :bang: I had made templates out of some manilla folders but even that wasn't the hole answer. It is just   :bang: rete of passage!

I sat in them for 20 minutes daydreaming.....amazing how that will adjust a persons outlook. Then played with striping tape for a while

Brian, Your seats look great. I am glad you are in a better mood today. You and I are probably the only Rivet Bangers not on our way to Oshkosh. We can keep each other company this week :(

I'll be here everyday, hoping to catch OSH tid-bits from those who went. After watching the latest weather/grounds report, my wife said "see aren't you glad you glad you didn't fly to OSH this year"

Kris sat in the plane tonight for the first time. We closed the canopy and daydreamed together for a bit.

Ooooooo! Those seats really look GREAT, Brian. Nice!!

Talk about frustrated regarding Oshkosh... I'm sitting here in Chicago on business, only about 3 hrs. from Osh. But I can't go. My regular flight heads back to Portland tomorrow evening. I tried to make it work, but I just can't swing it.

Creature comforts for the wife. She always hated the crappy club planes, so said "make it nice, I'm not riding in a POS".......yes dear.

sidenote: got ALL the skins riveted today. I think the only rivets I have left are the gear fairings, wheel pants and some nutplates for the cowl bottom.
:)

but sad also. A dear friend and our closest neighbor died today when they crashed their Warrior at Spearfish SD. :( Husband walked away.

Sorry about your neigbor Brian! That would really drive me nuts to have my wife killed in airplane that I was piloting! That is a tough break. I am glad your wife was able to sit in the airplane.

The pilot of my airplane and I flew up to Aitken this morning and gave three of my Brothers grand daughters isn N784TB and one of his daughter,s ; a daughter-in-law and son-in-lawn of my Brother. The weather turned squirrely so we couldn't give my two nephews a ride. My Brother helped me build the airplane but died about two months before it was certified. My Brother flew P-47's; P-38's in the South Pacfic in WWII. He flew p-51's in the Minnesota Air Nation Guard afterwards. He was the one who talked me into an RV-6A. When you are 91 something gets you and his third bought of cancer did it.

I figured since it was N155BK's last night in the shop I would give it a good scrub down and degreasing. Here she is already for the journey to the paint shop tomorrow.

I understand the cash required thing. I sold my free&clear Jeep Liberty for cash to finish up this project. now I'm stuck driving my 1981 3/4ton Chevy. :( sacrifices must be made

started raining about 4am...

Post by hydroguy2 »

...so woke up and had trouble sleeping thinking about the big move. Still raining at 9am when my friend showed up to help.

i was planning on just hooking the tailwheel to my 4 wheeler. then with the rain, I thought about getting a flatbed trailer, or even postponing the event. finally just said 'it's only a 1/4mile just do it'. so popped the tailwheel off the fork and attached the fork to rack on my ATV.

THEN the big bonehead happened. :bang: I forgot to take any pics! Down my gravel road to the highway, Neil following with his flashers on. 2 blocks to the paint shop, people gawking all the way. Not often you see an airplane going backward down the highway. Worked like a charm, but will probably use a trailer after paint to take it the 2 miles to the airport.
