Bottom wing skin rivet sequence

Post by Joe Parish »

For those that have riveted the bottom skins on a 9. Did you follow Van's instructions or try another sequence and how did it turn out? I am wondering about Van's instructions to start at the rear spar and work out and toward the front spar. Mostly wondering about how people's gaps between the leading edge and bottom skins turned out?

Worked fine for me. You have to start at the rear spar, since you won't be able to reach back there to buck the rivets with the skin completely flat. You have to peel back the skin and work your way forward until you can no longer get underneath the bottom wing skin. At that point you have to reach in from the sides or access panels to buck the rivets towards the main spar.

My experience and write up is here.
