you guys look healthy. very blue skies and blue water. just beautiful. it's nice up there.

1 plane + 1 bike does not equal 2, but rather 5, for the fun factor. with two people, double it.

you are the original Zizzo RV guy!

when I first started riding again 1.5 yrs ago, I rode from Springfield airport to Yellow Springs, 6 miles. I wondered if I could make that distance. now, I smile about that.

getting back on the bike after summer travels is nice. my hardwire music ear buds didn't work after a t-mobile upgrade. I stopped in at t-mobile to see if they could fix it. nope. so I bought a pair of bluetooth noise cancelling ear buds that were recommended to me by the t-mobile sales gal. she was right on, these are great. no danger of falling out with this design and the noise cancelling does wonders for wind noise and they are ULTRA confortable. best thing I ever did. rock on! made in Vietnam and perfect.

when I was in Minnesota, biking in May, I tangled my hardwire ear buds in my gear set so badly I needed a mechanic to fix it. :)

you forget how nice a bike is on a nice cool day. this tricked out Zizzo is very nice. we may set a record low of 9C tomorrow morning.... for freaking August. what the hell is going on! where is my coat? need some hot soup to warm.

14C this AM and low winds.... newly resurfaced runway, one mile long and 150 ft wide, grooved and striped, and slightly crowned. a beautiful place to operate. the ILS will bring you home.

I ate too much today. Buffalo burger was over the top. Ohio raised buffalo.

bike ride from Urbana Ohio to Springfield OH and back. wheels up at 8:30 AM. wheels down at 6:00 PM. I ate breakfast at the Urbana airport diner. a breakfast gravy plate. it tasted like motor oil, so bad I could not finish it even though I was hungry. Frank Llyod Wright Westcott house guided tour in Springfield was very good. one tap on the sink was for rainwater. clocked about 40 miles today on the Zizzo speedster. a fun way to work the body. Abuela's taco Tuesday, $10. you can't beat it as they were loaded. it sure beats taco hell. a very good day.

I think the cake at Abuela's in Urbana was a Venezuelan Tres Leches Cake. I need some more of that!

it was a slight variation of this photo because of the caramel (or something) topping. pair that with a good cafe leche and you are in for something special.

forget about the motor oil food at the Urbana diner. get something better for less. you never know what you will find unless you are out and about.... on a bike.

Put-in-Bay Ohio. a very nice one day trip to drop on the island. State Park tent camping $16, and I rode my bike, so no need to rent a golf cart. amazing that I can be there in only 1 hour, from Cincinnati. I threw my gear in a backpack because it is only a short distance from the airport. I had lots of money left over to buy the ladies a beer or two. I toured the island on my bike and stopped at the old lighthouse. I over flew the Kamala ladies at the State Park on my way out. they like to spread joy. if you want to be chick magnet, wear this hat! this was probably my best trip there, very inexpensive. I need to go back!

floatation vest on the floor after the flight. you never know. Put-in-Bay is getting a nice new FBO. it seems everything there is being upgraded.

the Reuben sandwich at Holligans has been refined to perfection over the past 30 years. first time to try Lobster eggs benedict with cherry wood bacon, $18. I liked it.

too many photos for some. like my grandma said, if you don't like it, don't look at it. :)

Trumpster tail cam was rolling along with wing and empennage cams. Permission from the airport staff was granted.

for a one-day trip from Cincinnati, this one is hard to beat.

Rock On in the groove.... don't waste your life in the hangar. build it once, build it right, and then enjoy.

Ergon bike grips.... GP1, GP3, GP5 (horn). I will upgrade the GP1 to GP3 on the red bike. I like these grips. the grips are possibly the most important part of the bike. be careful if you are riding a wheelie on these short wheelbase bike, they will come over on you quickly. for most of the guys, the large size grip is better. for twist shift grip on the Zizzo, you need the Ergon GP3-L BioKork Rohloff/Nexus: Large, Black/Tan

I punish these bikes, and they are doing well. thousands of miles. a good value for a folding bike.

I rode all around Springfield OH a couple weeks ago. it was nice and friendly. dogs and cats roaming freely and appeared to be happy.

Springfield OH has been a regular stop for me on the bike for the past couple of years. it seems to me that it has been improving with more places to eat good food. you will also be close to Abuela's in Urbana. you don't want to miss Taco Tuesday. it was delicious.

I don't think I have ever seen a 4.9 out of 5 rating on google maps restaurant reviews before, but Abuela's has it.

I proceeded towards Y87 but turned left at Frankfort and crossed the lake to Ephraim (3D2) in Door County, WI. this was the first time for me to cross the lake in my RV9A. water is up to 250m (820ft) deep in that area and I was concerned but it turned out to be a nonevent. If you go down in that area and can’t get the canopy open, they will never find you. I was at 10.5K feet and there was only 13 minutes where I was out of gliding distance to either shore. I called Ephraim a day before and explained the security concerns and asked if I could turn my aircraft security cameras on and they said yes. Ephraim has free airport camping with tables and a fire pit. Overnight parking charge is $16, and the 24/7 fuel system does not take AmEx but Visa was accepted. Ephraim has nice Trek bikes for free and a courtesy car, the place is neat as a pin. the courtesy car has a drive-in sticker to the State Park, so no cost and you can take a free nice shower there. I highly recommend this airport.

I stayed at Peninsula State Park at a beautiful campsite on the lakeshore. I rode the area and found some nice places to eat. the weather was perfect. on the last night, a bear ate all my remaining food and CANDY. he bumped into my tent lines, and I could hear him breathing. I smacked the side of my tent, and he went away. note: do not store any food in the tent. I did not. no shots fired. I bought some cheese and crackers that morning at the camp store. a very good trip.....

16.8 gallons on the way up and 20 on the way home, for a total of 36.8 gallons for 758 nm = 20.86 nm / gallon.

when I am on these bike trips, I tip the waiters at least 30% and more (usually 50%) because I don't spend much money elsewhere. dump the money into good places.

back to printing as the orders have piled on when I was away.

racing seat swap for the speedster, $15 eBay, titanium frame. new GP3 grips for the all arounder. cleaning and lubing all the bikes, adjusting cables, very relaxing. new phone and water bottle mounts. when you are traveling using google maps, just select "bike" and it will give you a good route. ready to go. I have covered thousands of miles on these Zizzo bikes. if you take care of them, they will be fine.

Springfield OH airport, Yellow Springs and John Bryan State Park.... perfect temperatures, low winds, beautiful scenery and some music and good food (Buffalo Smokehouse burger). I could still detect traces of ozone from the recent rain. we really needed the rain. I like the new stick cover as it is good protection for the switches when I flop in. I like the Powerline bike trail, grinning ear to ear and whooping. too much fun! the view from above is grand, you can see everything, but you can't feel it unless you are on the ground. let the airplane take you places to feel the beauty.

the beater bike is getting some maintenance; inspected everything, chain and derailer lubed (flooded with LPS1), frame latch and a couple spokes tightened. the chain stretch is at 75% so it is done, I will change it after the next ride. if you replace the chain at 75% stretch you will get a lot more life from the rear gear set. I am amazed this bike is holding up so well after the punishment I have given it. it is only a lightweight alum frame but doing well. I am still convinced that these bikes are a great value.

mounted a phone on the Zizzo speedster with the elk horns. everything still folds fine. a custom handlebar with easy reach of the phone. what's amazing is that you can travel across the state and clip off 50 miles at a leisurely pace, see some new stuff, get some exercise, eat a pizza, and be back by dinner time. the airplane makes it possible and makes for a very nice day.

Mt Vernon OH... Gambier, Howard, Danville, Maysville... there may have been a nicer weather day somewhere in the past, but this day was exceptionally nice. I was just riding the Zizzo speedster and looking around. I got a couple waves from the Amish in their buggies and wagons after they looked to see that my bike was not electrically assisted, and that I was not a slacker. their waves are subtle and usually pointed downwards. a very good day, doing nothing productive. :)

a 45-minute flight sure beats a 2.5-hour drive with construction and a possible accident delay.

I recommend North Main Cafe (Amish girls with hair coverings and plain dresses) and Cosmic Dave's Subs in Mt Vernon. the best meatball sub I have ever had.

time for a new bag as this approximately 100 times loading bag is beginning to wear on the bottom where the seat post supports the bike when folded. I suppose I could be more careful when I set the bike down. for $25 you can get a new bag. ready to go as the weather is looking very good!

Holmes County Airport.... Millersburg, Holmesville, Fredericksburg, Millersburg, Killbuck, and back to the airport, maybe 35 miles, all new for me. I am getting over a cold that was coming on during last week's ride, but the legs were OK. this is low hill country, and you drop into the valley from the airport about 400 feet. beaver have created some nice wetlands in the valley and that brings in more wildlife as beaver are a cornerstone species for habitat. small towns each separated by 6 miles or so that had small train depots. it was just beautiful. I met a nice lady on the bike trail, and we exchanged info for miles and then had a coffee together. she has some more things to show me so I'm looking forward to that. it was the first day for the very young waitress at the bistro, trying so hard, I left her a nice tip. the breakfast food was better in Mt. Vernon. it was a very good day, doing nothing productive. :) a 55-minute flight sure beats a 3hr and 10-minute drive.

the hardware store was very familiar to me even though I had never been there before, as I worked at one just like this as a teen. note: don't underestimate 22 mag rounds as they have a relatively high muzzle velocity of 1900 fps. I shot thousands of those rounds as a kid. the kinetic energy does the work. however, hot loaded 7mm mag rounds will well exceed 3000 fps, but they didn't carry those. a 7mm bull barrel will ensure accuracy and the bullet speed will minimize wind corrections. it's nice that they have the ammo unsecured by the door and checkout, so you don't forget to buy some.

the warming turtle is safe on this trail as there is nothing that can harm it. the guy on the other side the strawberry Sunday is dying of brain cancer. discovered two months ago. he had a headache for a week then went into convulsions sitting in his tow motor at work. three months projected to live. the doctor told him to smoke as much as he wants. 58 years old. the right eye is already gone.

this song helped to climb out of the valley back to the airport...

Springfield OH.... Yellow Springs, John Brayn State Park Mountain bike trails. I woke up and took a look at the weather and it was really nice, so I thought I should do something. I decided to test my new sling bag (purple closeout special). it turns out I spent all day out and about, mostly on the mountain bike trails. duckweed taking over the beaver pond that is feed by the Yellow Spring (they say it has been flowing for thousands of years). perfect temperatures and a very nice day, doing nothing productive, but I burned a lot of calories. :)

the engine oil looks OK. I keep my engine very dry.

I beat the crap out of this bike. pushing it to its limits.

one thing I like about the 9 is that it is very efficient. two nice trips on the same tank, 36 gal. I don't spend very much. 10 gal still in the tanks.

Re: Zizzo Liberte - folding bike

the beater bike gets a new chain. a 15-minute job. after installing the new chain, you will notice smoother shifting. no need to lube a new chain as they are coated with a light Teflon oil.

1. punch out a pin from the old chain
2. lay the old and new chain on a table and note the stretch. this one stretched one full link.
3. subtract the stretch and one link (because you will add one) and punch the pin on the new chain
3A. another method is to count the links and subtract one
4. route the chain thru the derailer first and then around the crank gear and temporarily clip it
5. add the coupling link and use the pliers in reverse to set the link

I inspected the bike, especially the folding hinge. it looks OK. I somehow managed to break the plastic chain guard. don't need it, it's gone. the bike seems to be holding up to abuse.

one thing you can do to make the folded bike as compact as possible for loading is to strap the tires to compress the magnetic catch spring. it will reduce the bike width by about 3/4 inch. in that way you don't need to move the seats for loading the bike. also, move the derailer to the lowest gear. hey, why not make it as easy as possible.
