Bell crank problem maybe
Bell crank problem maybe
I've been checking out a lot of builder web sites tonight after getting home. In the morning I'll be calling tech support but I'd like to find out from someone here, if possible, what may be going on. My bell crank just behind the baggage area seems not to be correct. The bent ends that form the fork(s) that the Control Rod bearings fit between seem to have too shallow a bend in them. When I put the bearing in the bell crank the sides splay open and I'd have to force the bearing into place just to get a bolt through the bearings. There are two different bearing call outs on the plans for this location. One is a call out for a RV9 and another call out for an RV7. I'm thinking I may have gotten parts for an RV9. This part just doesn't seem right and it looks as if it's such a minor item builders just glide through the details on their web sites.

I dont have a 7, but I can look forward towards the part callouts for the 9 if you want. It might help identify your part.

Well I'm back. I emailed Vans about this and the reply was “if the space is to small you can just force the bearing into place and bolt it”. I definitely didn't think much of that answer. So I took the crank back to the shop and through a series of trial and error figured out a way of re bending the forks to a wider spacing while leaving the part assembled. I was afraid of cracking the aluminum if I did that but decided it would be better to attempt that rather than just force the parts together. Here is a picture of the end product.
