Platenut splicing

Post by Wicked Stick »

Here's a tip for those of you who might need to squeeze two platenuts close together. I ran into an area on my 8 that resulted in my coming up with this idea.

If you look at the drawing for the installation of a bracket for the optional rear seat rudder pedals of an 8, you will see that Van's plans have you squeeze in a platenut next to the edge of the spar lip. I thought this was pretty lousy edge distance, so I came up with this idea instead.

Here's a picture of the installed "Wicked Splice" platenuts... This way I get no edge distance problems and each platenut is held in place nicely.

Great idea!!
(remember the rivets are only there to prevent the platenut from rotating).
