Cheap, er... INEXPENSIVE fuse blocks!

Post by captain_john »

Hey! I spotted these on another builders site and I think I may just be placing an order for some tonight!

http://www.pegasusautoracing.com/produc ... oduct=4402

Spike, maybe the resource area for fuse blocks, wire and switches? They also have some AN fittings and what nots.

CJ, they are good people to work with from my experience. That is where I bought my small sized oops rivets that I have used on most of the nutplates I have installed. They sure have saved a lot of time and effort.

The fuse blocks look like a good deal.

CJ, are you gonna go all fuses instead of breakers?

Check this out. Here is an even cheaper way to go:

Sort of. Oops rivets are #30 shanks with #40 heads. If you elongate a #40 hole, drill it to a #30, and the head will still show there is no mistake. 8)

Would that be like a NAS1097AD4-4 rivet? That has a head countersink diameter smaller than a MS20426AD4-4?

Well, the plane I work on has lots of OOPS rivets.

In most instances the NAS1097 head rivet is standard installation on the aircraft from the factory, and what I normally use on repairs unless the countersinks were damaged and then I would just countersink a little deeper for a 426 head.

NAS1097AD3-4 is what I am using

Post by JohnR »

Hi Tom, the oops rivets I have been using for platenuts are the smaller ones. The shank fits in a #40 hole and the head is smaller than a normal rivet of that size. It makes it so you can countersink the rivets for the nutplates in a lot of places that you would need to dimple if you did not have them. I usually just use my deburring tool and give it a few turns and then use the smaller "oops" rivets to fasten the nutplate in place. Works great.

The ones I use are NAS1097AD3-4 you can see them by clicking here.

Little known fact: Piper Malibu's are built with NAS Oops rivets! :o

All -
FWIW (for what it's worth) - you can make yor own oops rivet.
Just take a regular rivet - 1 size larger than needed & GENTLY sqeeze it (make sure it doesn't buckle).
Doesn't take much pressure - and fills the hole nicely :)

I got a 500' roll of 20 ga wire for $19.95 from Haire Aviation on Ebay. Shipping is $8.00 but they combined shipping for other AN hardware I bought. Good folks to deal with.

I saw that Haire deal on ebay!

20 AWG is kinda a weird size, if you are asking me. I plan on using 22 for comm and light stuff and 18 for light power feeds. 20 seems to be somewhat in the middle.

UPDATE on the Pegasus stuff:

WS and I were dwelling in minutia when looking over my order. The wire they sent me was NOT MILSPEC STUFF! I emailed them about it today. They said to keep the crap they sent me (not milspec) and they will ship milspec stuff this week! Ummmm, okaaaayyyy.

I guess they though that I was an IDIOT!!!

Soooo, if you want sme free hookup wire, order some from them and then you can request some REAL milspec stuff for free!

Hahahaha...

Nevertheless... I would still buy from them, as the seem upstanding and all!

My MILSPEC Wire arrived today, as promised!

Good stuff! I can use the cheap hookup stuff they sent me for bench testing stuff and whatnot!

Cool!

Hmmmm, M22579/34?

I dunno what that is, but it is the same stuff that Van sent me for my capacitive fuel tank senders. That is M22759/16.

Where did you see M22579/34 and what is the difference?

I see the 5 and 7 transposed and what is with the suffix?
