Bemidji Day 3 photos...

I knew it was going to be a good day as my pinky finger started working again from when I crushed it three days prior.

Returning to my favorite lightweight bike... I feel the need for speed... it was a busy airspace today.

It was a perfect day, starting at 4 degrees Celsius and reaching a high of 20 degrees with almost no wind. I’m not sure how that happens without any breeze—maybe it’s the solar radiation on such a crisp and clear day. I couldn’t resist the beauty of fall and decided to get some exercise for both myself and the aircraft. Originally, I planned a short path ride with some mountain bike trails, but the weather was so nice and I felt so good that I kept going—village after village. It turned into an all-day ride covering 60 miles. Yellow Springs was gearing up for a big party weekend, and along the way, I met a nice woman at a coffee shop. Later, she ran into me again at the bike depot and asked me to show her the actual Yellow Spring, but I was running out of daylight and feeling tired from the ride. Plus, the Springfield airport was closing taxiways for construction and preparing for heavy drone activity, so I didn’t want to navigate that at night. What an amazing day!

A 13-mile ride section completed in 50 minutes on a stock Zizzo Liberte with no aero bars and flat pedals, which I calculated to be 15.6 mph. It seems pretty slow when you consider that Tour de France cyclists race at twice that speed for 100 miles.

The sump air humidity sensors spiked after I connected the dehumidifier. It will begin pulling it down in about 30 minutes.

Also, I found the ultimate Oshkosh tie down anchor, 3 ft.

I couldn’t resist getting outside today with such amazing weather, 8°C in the morning warming up to 21°C by the afternoon. I rode into town, grabbed some snacks, and headed to John Bryan State Park for the mountain bike trails. A bike shop from Columbus, Ohio, was showcasing their latest models and let participants test ride them for 30 minutes on the trails. These bikes featured composite frames, on-the-fly adjustable shocks and seat posts, electronic shifting, composite rims, and more. After years of riding my folding bike on these trails, I had no idea how good it could be—it was an eye-opening experience. Even after trying out the new bikes, I hopped back on my folding bike for some more trail riding and then went into town for a Vic’s Garbage Burger, which was absolutely delicious. A nice conversation with a young attractive dining neighbor. With earbuds playing music until I switched to my headset, I’m really glad I got outside and enjoyed such a fantastic day.

I’ve been letting bugs build up on the aircraft to conduct a stall test comparison between bug-covered and clean surfaces, as I thought I noticed something last week. It won’t damage the PPG concept paint.

Springfield and John Bryan State Park Mountain Bike Trails...

Everywhere I looked today seemed to be bursting with beauty. It was probably because this was possibly the nicest weather day of the year so far—if not, it was very close. I spent most of the day on the mountain bike trails experimenting with tire pressure. Lower tire pressure works better on the trails, obviously, but figuring out how low you can go is key. For optimal ease of riding and traction, you want to go as low as possible without rim contact, which also depends on the tire. I decided to upgrade one of my Libertés to knobby tires, and I think I can get Holy Rollers installed since the Zizzo has space for larger tires. I think 2.2-inch-wide tires should work fine. After dinner, I clocked another 20 miles to burn off the soda and candy bar. It was a full and very pleasant day, and I felt like I got my money's worth of exercise for both me, the bike and the aircraft.

After 50 hours, the oil still looks fine. Planning to go to 100 hours before changing it. Same as last time.

Music for the trails:
Everybody Needs Somebody to Love
The Blues Brothers - Topic
https://youtu.be/LEkvuxjccLA?si=LrZj4m1JeLz36OBm

Foo Fighters - Learn to Fly
https://youtu.be/MOQV__Z55eE?si=G5EkTNqtVCMnvgDj

These tires should be good for both the mountain bike trails and in the snow this winter. Holy Rollers, but they weigh 700g! But before you unload the bike, cue the music.
